Local News: NAIA-3, Erap, and the Olympic gold incentive(s)
NAIA Terminal 3 is a boon after MDT
All domestic travelers may already have submitted themselves to the daunting experience of the Manila Domestic Airport with its cramped chaos and outmoded bus-station charm. If it weren’t for the profusion of airport security personnel and baggage x-ray detectors, one could easily pretend that a 50-minute flight to Boracay was an excursion in a Victory Liner.
The newly opened, ultra-modern, 640 million dollar Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 is a heavenly ascent from purgatory quips Lance Gokongwei of Cebu Pacific Air which transferred its operations to the new terminal.
Vicious cycle
Former President Joseph Estrada (whose administration, by the way, had been involved in the controversial mismanagement of the Terminal 3’s construction in 1997) tells Gloria to “take a leave and go to Portugal”. He has released a documentary called “The Return” and is reportedly running for office in 2010. In the midst of his favorable approval ratings in the recent Social Weather Station survey, Estrada was gracious enough to guest in last Friday’s episode of Deal or No Deal. How could he pass up the publicity?
Bring home the lechon
In an effort to stoke our athletes into winning the 84-year unreachable gold in the Olympics, the incentive for fetching the prize at Beijing has been jacked up to 15 million pesos. Oh, in addition to that they get:
- a parade on a float
- one or two movie deals on their life story (with a starlet as leading lady)
- a citation in our historical textbooks
- a primetime TV show (with a very promising showbiz career in the horizon so long as acting or singing talent is perceptible)
- and a very possible run for office in the senate/congress/presidency.
Did I miss anything?
